Protein Skimmers: Sump and External

The DB ReefTech sump and external protein skimmers can be located in any suitable location, in the sump, beside the sump or beside the aquarium. The PS-#SE units are suited to situations with or without a sump.

Air is introduced into the protein skimmer column using a recirculating aspirated pump. A simple low pressure venturi located on the intake side of the pump introduces air into the water entering the pump. As the air and water passes through the impeller chamber, the impeller chops the air into fine bubbles. This produces a consistent, fine bubble size, greatly increasing the air/water surface area for adsorption. Recirculation allows a larger volume of air to be introduced into the protein skimmer for a given water flowrate and a longer air/water contact time.

Model: PS-5SE

Features:

  • Rated for systems up to ~500 litres
  • 500mm tall, with 300mm x 300mm footprint
  • Driven by an aspirated recirculating pump. Pond Master 2100 is the recommended pump, but any other external pump of similar flowrate will be suitable. If another pump is used, this needs to be notified of when ordering
  • Water feed is via the recirculating pump if used in the sump, or a separate pump, split pump flow or gravity feed from an overflow.
  • Full control over foam height and therefore skimate consistency
  • Adjustable air flow and water flow
  • Instant detachable collection cup for easy cleaning
  • Easy flange access to clean column
  • Collection cup drain line

Installation

Installation

Each of the different DB ReefTech protein skimmer configurations have some slightly different options available for installation. The extact suitable installation depends on the type of system (sump or no sump), preferred placement and space available for the protein skimmer.

Diagrams and instructions detailing some of the possible methods of installation can be seen here, Installation.

Customisation

If you require something different from the standard unit specifications then that can be easily accommodated. Since each DB ReefTech unit is hand made, it is very easy to provide fully customisation to your requirements. This includes changing the dimensions to fit into a required space (such as limited height, footprint or shape) or creating a model/size that isn't currently a part of the advertised product range. Please note that customisation does not necessarily mean an additional cost. In the majority of cases it makes no difference at all as the labour and material required are not significantly altered.

If you have any questions or comments on customisation, then do not hesitate to contact us.

Lifetime Repair Warranty

If any DB ReefTech product is damaged during its lifetime, then DB ReefTech will repair and return the unit to full working order with minimal expense to the customer (within reason as noted below). This lifetime repair warranty covers the entire DB ReefTech product range; Protein Skimmers, Calcium Reactors, Refugiums and Fish Traps.

In the case of a simple repair job, requiring gluing and some minor parts, there will be no parts or labour costs. Something more substantial, with a significant amount of work required and/or parts, then it will incur a charge for parts at cost price plus a minimal labour charge. In all cases the customer is required to cover the expense of shipment to and from DB ReefTech. It should be noted that some repairs may not be possible, short of building a totally new unit, or due to the extent of the damage not worth performing. These cases are not covered by the warranty.

If you have any questions or comments on the lifetime repair warranty, then do not hesitate to contact us.
