Calcium Reactors

Calcium Reactors

The DB ReefTech range of calcium reactors covers systems up to 3,000 litres with two configurations available. The combined column model is thought to be a world first, original and exclusive to DB ReefTech.

All of the calcium reactors are designed to utilise a recirculating pump through approximately 2/3rds of the substrate. Both configurations have a second section/column that ensures that the effluent is at a higher pH and has the maximum amount of calcium carbonate dissolved prior to leaving the unit. This allows the reactor to be driven harder for a given size and provide for higher calcium and alkalinity demands.

Below is a table of the sizes and configurations available. Please click on the model number to see the full details, features and an image of the unit. If something is required that is not listed, please enquire about custom building or modification to your personal needs. Please note, customisation does not necessarily mean an increase in the price.

Please contact your local Retail Outlet for availability and retail pricing of DB ReefTech calcium reactors.

If you are unsure on some details provided here, what a calcium reactor is, what they are used for and how they work, then please see the Frequently Ask Questions.

Unit specifications and design may be subject to change without notice.

Configurations

There are two calcium reactor configurations available from DB ReefTech; combined (C) and double (D) column. Both offer a second stage, single pass compartment that is filled with calcerous substrate to increase the effluent pH and ensure that the maximum amount of calcium carbonate is dissolved before reintroduction to the reef aquarium system. The suitability of either configuration is dependent on the space available for installation, both will perform the same.

C: Combined Column
Consists of a single, tall column to be filled with calcerous substrate. Water is partially recirculated within the lower section of the column and then passes once through the second section. Suitable for situations where there is limited footprint space for installation and sufficient headspace.
D: Double Column
Consists of two adjacent columns to be filled with calcerous substrate. Water is recirculated within the first column and then passes through the second column once. Suitable for situations where there is limited headspace for installation and sufficient footprint available.

Installation

All DB ReefTech calcium reactor sizes and configurations can be installed in the same manner. The installation depends on the type of system (sump or no sump), if a dedicated feed pump is used, or the preferred placement of the calcium reactor.

Diagrams and instructions detailing some of the possible methods of installation can be seen here, Installation.

Customisation

If you require something different from the standard unit specifications then that can be easily accommodated. Since each DB ReefTech unit is hand made, it is very easy to provide fully customisation to your requirements. This includes changing the dimensions to fit into a required space (such as limited height, footprint or shape) or creating a model/size that isn't currently a part of the advertised product range. Please note that customisation does not necessarily mean an additional cost. In the majority of cases it makes no difference at all as the labour and material required are not significantly altered.

If you have any questions or comments on customisation, then do not hesitate to contact us.

Lifetime Repair Warranty

If any DB ReefTech product is damaged during its lifetime, then DB ReefTech will repair and return the unit to full working order with minimal expense to the customer (within reason as noted below). This lifetime repair warranty covers the entire DB ReefTech product range; Protein Skimmers, Calcium Reactors, Refugiums and Fish Traps.

In the case of a simple repair job, requiring gluing and some minor parts, there will be no parts or labour costs. Something more substantial, with a significant amount of work required and/or parts, then it will incur a charge for parts at cost price plus a minimal labour charge. In all cases the customer is required to cover the expense of shipment to and from DB ReefTech. It should be noted that some repairs may not be possible, short of building a totally new unit, or due to the extent of the damage not worth performing. These cases are not covered by the warranty.

If you have any questions or comments on the lifetime repair warranty, then do not hesitate to contact us.
